How Do Brake Pads Work?

Brake pads act as buffers between brake rotors and the calipers that slow them to a stop when you step on the pedal. There is a lot of friction between the calipers and rotors, and this can do a lot of damage to your brakes. The brake pads can prevent this damage, but they wear out over time and will need to be replaced. You may hear a harsh grinding sound when you press your brake pedal when your brake pads are worn through.

You can usually purchase new brake pads at most automotive stores, but if you don't know how to install them, you will need to take your car to an auto repair shop or a dealership. Fortunately, this is a fairly simple procedure, and we will be glad to do it for you. For more information about installing new brake pads or about any of our other brake services, contact Lithia Medford Volkswagen today.
